The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have
come that they may have life, and have it to the full.-John
10:10
Living a full life is an idea that everyone
is trying to achieve. We may not all use the terminology that Christ used in
the John’s Gospel, but we are still reaching for the goal of having every need
met, our happiness achieved, and feeling inner peace. The reality is these
goals are attainable; unfortunately not everyone is aiming to achieve them the
same way. I will share 3 ways to living a full life and I hope that they can
assist you on your journey in life.
1) In
order to live a full life, we must know the One who gave us the life we have in
the first place. Then, allow Him to fill us up. Christ spent time at a well and
met the Samaritan woman that had several relationships. She was trying to
achieve happiness by being with many different men. Christ introduced Himself
as the one who could provide “living water” (John 4:10). He is the only one
that can provide satisfaction and bring that joy you need. He is the reason we
live.
2)
In order to live a full life, we must
allow the One who gave us life to direct our life. In life there are things we
cannot control. We try so hard to handle details and hope God blesses them. He
may or may not, but we must allow that to be the case. When we try to control
too much we take away God’s role in our life. He is the One who will guide our
steps and provide us with what we need. Allow the God of the full life to work
in your life in order to fill you with His righteousness and give you what you
need. “So do not worry…But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
(Matt.6:32-33).
3) In
order to live a full life, serve others. This goes against what culture tells
us, but it is true. In order to live a life that is full we need to serve
others with a whole heart sincerely loving and caring about who they are. When
we serve others and love our neighbor we are doing exactly what God wanted us
to do from the beginning. Christ came to serve, not to be served and he set the
example for His followers. There is something inherent within that moves us to
serve. There is something that moves in us and brings us joy when we engage in
the act of serving and possibly fills us up enough to take away our negative
outlook or feelings in our life. The Lord’s desire is for His people to love
and serve one another; that is His will and His rewards will come to those who
answer His call. (Ephesians 6:7-8)
Living the full life is easier when we rest in the One who
came to give us a full life. Hopefully, these three thoughts can help move you
to a closer relationship with Him and achieving what He came to bestow upon us.
