True Freedom

“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”-Galatians 5:1

Last night I had the chance to catch a glimpse of a new “reality” show called Preacher’s Daughters (http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/preachers-daughters) and I must say I was disturbed. I wasn’t necessarily disturbed by the fact that we have another show exploiting young girls, young Christian girls at that, but the fact that one of the young ladies seriously said “I wouldn’t mind being a porn star because they have freedom.” Seriously!

I was in shock by these words. Now, I don’t know any porn stars nor do I know how many of them feel, but I do know that the majority of slavery that is occurring in this world is centered around sex. There are over 27 million people caught up in modern day slavery of some sort. Victims that are held captive and often times neglected, beaten, or killed. It is a tragic situation that this world and our generation, is now trying to tackle (check out: enditmovement.org). I hope and pray that our voices are louder than the mighty dollar, but I know for sure that God is mightier than this evil.

Pornography is a form of slavery, whether people want to admit it or not. People get enslaved to the images they see on their screens and the women and men involved get captured by the lifestyle. They are being used to sell something that destroys marriages, livelihoods, and self-esteem. We need to be aware of our young people seeking this kind of “freedom”. If this pastor’s daughter holds this view of pornography as “freedom”, how many others out there feel the same way? I am scared of the answer.

It is our role and responsibility to teach about the true freedom found in Christ. He, as Paul writes, came to set us free from the bondage of slavery. We cannot allow for our children or anyone else for that matter, to feel that the only way to achieve freedom is by selling their body for someone else to misuse. Let us stand on the truth of the freedom found in Christ, the salvation message found at the cross and redemptive power given at the resurrection. May the glory and power of our Creator redeem the heart and spirits of those enslaved to a false sense of “freedom”! Amen!

Hi son, this is your mom. I too saw the episode was felt just as disturbed as you. How could this young lady, who has heard the word of God all of her life and taught the importance of purity, be falsely led to relate freedom to a life of pornography. My jaw dropped and I was dumbfounded, to say the least. Although all of your blogs are enlightening, this specific one is profound and needs to be made easily available to all, especially our youth.
