“It is written: ‘I
believed; therefore I have spoken.’ Since we have that same spirit of faith, we
also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the
Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you
to himself.”-2 Corinthians 4: 13-14
I have heard some people refer to trusting God as stepping
off a cliff in faith or walking to the end of a pier and stepping onto the
water in trust. I’m not sure if I can really agree with the analogy. I don’t
think God is going to lead us like that, but I could be wrong.
I feel like God is always revealing Himself and guiding us,
but not always visible. If we follow God where He is leading, then are we
really stepping blindly?
Follow me on this. Yes, the Scriptures clearly state, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for
and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended
for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so
that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”(Hebrews 11:1-3;
NIV) However, I am not sure if that means we walk with a blindfold and step.
Faith is in God, not an event. Faith is in Jesus, not an
opportunity. We may not see Jesus, but we see His work in and around us. He is
right in front of us saying, “step”. We see that our Old Testament ancestors
walked in faith to places they did not know or built things out of faith, not
because they knew why, but because they trusted God. However, they were
following the audible voice of God
(or an angel of God, but God nonetheless). They trusted the voice and moved toward it. They did not know the outcome, but they knew God had something in store.
(or an angel of God, but God nonetheless). They trusted the voice and moved toward it. They did not know the outcome, but they knew God had something in store.
Even when Peter stepped out of the boat, he didn’t step
blindly, he stepped towards Jesus. He saw Him and trusted His words. He didn’t
know what to expect, but he was not stepping blindly.
The reality is, if we step out in faith, we step knowing
that we are stepping towards God. We are not stepping towards a job opening, we
are not stepping towards a move, but we are stepping towards a closer
relationship with Christ.
We may not know what He has in store, which is where faith
comes in, but the blindfold is off because we know that ultimately we are
moving closer to our Creator.
We see that He has made things out of nothing (refer back to
Hebrews 11), so the Scriptures have allowed us to know that He has the ability
to make what we don’t see into something great.
Our trust in God does not happen with our eyes closed, but
because our eyes have become opened. We have had our steps illuminated through
the actions of Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit in us. We see where we are
going and to Whom we are headed towards, which is all we really need to see
anyway.
Christ is leading the way. We cannot follow with our eyes
blinded.
We have to see Christ in order to step in faith.
May we have our eyes opened to what God wants us to see. May
we step in faith, not knowing what God is going to make out of it, but knowing
our sight should be on Christ and His guidance.
Peace and blessings friends.
QUESTION: Where have
you stepped in faith?
