Do The Right Thing

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”- Micah 6:8

My wife and I were speaking today about issues in our communities. There was a post on Facebook from an individual who knows their neighbor is a drug dealer and watched them do the deal in the middle of a major storm. The fact they could share it publicly on Facebook, but won’t take the time to report it to the proper authorities had us concerned. Why wouldn’t they report it, especially if it is common knowledge? It is a difficult decision, but that would be the right thing to do.

Why is it so easy for us to talk to each other or post on a social network about things that are wrong, but when it comes to doing something about we stay silent? Is it fear? Is it laziness? Is it doubt that we have the ability to make a change? I think it’s a little of all three.

Fear is a major issue. We fear what may happen if someone finds out we report it. We fear standing up because that means we will then be required to act. We fear the fact that maybe; just maybe, people will know we did something and shun us for being the voice in the wilderness. Fear is a reality, but it needs to be conquered. If we allow our fear to control us, then change will never occur. We can still take action with a little fear in us; when we choose not to act due to fear, that’s when we fail.

Laziness causes atrophy and apathy. If we don’t act quickly, we get lazy. We have all had the plan of joining a gym, but we will do it tomorrow. Tomorrow then becomes next week, then next week becomes next month, and so on and so on. It is a vicious cycle that Satan loves. When we know something is wrong and we need to do right, we need to start now! Don’t put off making the right change, that’s what evil thrives on. Evil people win when good people do nothing.

Self-doubt is another trick of the devil. Satan is all about making us think we can’t do anything right. He wants us to believe there is someone else who will do it because they are smarter, kinder, more loving, more compassionate, stronger, etc. THAT’S A LIE!!!! If you are in a position to leverage your skill to do the right thing, DO IT! You could be the catalyst to create change in your community, your home, your family, your marriage, your school, your _______________!

God is calling for His people to rise up and speak His truth into this broken world, but if we doubt we can say anything worthwhile we doubt the very God who gave Moses the voice to set the captives free!

How can we expect to see change if we are unwilling to do the right thing? We can’t! This world is waiting for people to speak up. This world is waiting for God to appear. When the Church is active and doing good in this world, then the world will see God in action through His people!
