The Mockery of Marriage

“‘Haven't you read,’ he replied, ‘that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.’” Matthew 19:4-6 (NIV)

News broke today of a website being hacked! Shocker, I know. I don’t think we can go a day without hearing about a supposedly “secure” website being broken into and information being breached. Most of the time, I couldn’t care less because it’s not like I’m rolling in the dough and hackers are going to tap into my account. In fact, I think the hackers would feel bad and put money in for me.

However, this website peeked my interest, and disgust. This website will remain nameless because I don’t want to contribute to people looking it up and giving it traffic. I know you can find it another way, but that’s more work and a higher risk of carpal tunnel for you, so why do it?

The site was set-up to promote cheating, no, infidelity. Their tagline: “Life is short, have an affair.”

WHAT?!

I feel so frustrated by this. Marriage is a sanctified union. It is meant for the people who are married to be with each other. There are vows that are made, people even make their own vows, and it seems like the vows go out the window!

A site like this takes marriage and makes it seem like a middle school relationship. It is deplorable and should not be accepted.

Look, if you want to have an open relationship that’s on you and your spouse, but realize emotions are still being damaged. If you want to have an affair because “grass just might be greener on the other side”, let’s face it, there are still patches of weeds that will make you look for a different lawn.

I want to take some time to address people in relationships, so, here we go:

Men:

Single- Andy Stanley said it best, “You need to be the person you’re looking for is looking for.” In other words, if you want an honest, sweet, intelligent, kind, compassionate, honorable, faithful companion…BE THAT! Don’t go bouncing from one person to the next. Learn what you want and you won’t have to treat them like Baskin-Robbins and taste all the flavors. Trust me, in regards to Baskin-Robbins, I worked there and all that tasting makes you overweight and tired. Be wise in who you choose!

Dating/Engaged- The single concept still works for you, but even more so, be wise in what you do. Whether we want to admit it or not, we still get emotional. We would be ticked if our significant other were to treat us like we aren’t worth working for, so guess what? YOU NEED TO WORK EVEN HARDER! Make them realize they are number 1. It doesn’t mean you can’t observe another woman’s beauty, but it does mean you don’t go trying to memorize it (aka, put your eyes and mind in check)! You have a person you are aiming to be with forever and if you can’t say that confidently, get out of that relationship now!

Married- You did it! You said “I Do” to the aforementioned vows. Memorize them. Mount them on your wall or in your office or, maybe, in YOUR HEART! The two concepts above still apply! You have the responsibility to love your spouse and be true to them. The emotional and psychological damage that is caused by unfaithful spouses is horrible, so don’t cause it! I hate it when I hear, “But, I’m a man and I have needs!” Guess what? Your spouse’s needs trump yours! Needs and desires are two different things. Your desires can be kept under control and your needs are met if you take them time to meet your spouse’s needs. Think about it!

Finally, married men, if you feel like cheating, kick yourself in the…this is a Christian blog, so I’ll stop there. Be wise in what you watch, where you go on the internet, who you hang out with, and most importantly, your personal connection with the One who created your spouse in the first place!

Women:

If you read all the stuff I wrote about men, hey, apply that to yourself as well! Yes, we are all the same. We all have desires and needs. We all have eyes that shift when we see another attractive person. We are all in the same boat. BE WISE and BE TRUE!

This is the end of my rant!

My hope and prayer is this site does get shutdown. I also hope and pray that those who are members of the site just come clean and not get busted by a hacker. However, if they think they can slide by without any issues…good luck! The truth will come out some way and it might be better for it to come out of their mouth rather than a website dedicated to busting cheating spouses!

The end!
